Saying Goodbye Is Hard To Do

12391012_10206672542164858_1565138932703911081_nI have sad news.  We lost Molly, our black and white cat, to cancer this past week.  She had been ill for some time, and the vet at first thought it might be something treatable.  But Molly didn’t get any better with the medication, and finally reached a point where we needed to take her in to the vet again for further testing.  It was at this visit that the vet said it was cancer and that it was in the last stages.  She would only survive for maybe 2-3 more months, and she would continue to deteriorate.  Her quality of life was poor and she would soon be paralyzed in her back legs.  We had to make the difficult decision to let her go.

It’s the absolute worst part of being a pet owner.  Molly had been a part of our family for years, and when you lose a family member, it leaves a hole in your home and your heart.  My husband took it hard because she was his cat in the last few months, spending most of her time on him when she could.  She would sleep between our pillows at night, and stomp on your head coming and going.

Molly was a small, funny little cat.  She was marked up with a black “wig” and black tail, but the rest of her was white.  She was a rescue, like most of our cats, and found a forever home in our family.  I know that Molly is now pain-free and restored to health, running and playing with all those cats who have gone before her.  And I know we will see her again when our time comes.  We miss you, Molly.

I know too well how hard it is to make that awful decision, that it is “time” I wish I could give you a hug. Please take comfort in the fact that you gave Molly a beautiful life, she was deeply loved….she will always be with you protecting her from above. You showed your love in the kindest way possible, by helping her to avoid suffering. Sending you much love and my deepest sympathy (((hugs))) catchatwithcarenandcody

  5. Oh my sweet friend…how sad I am to learn about your precious Molly going away so soon. You were both lucky to have each other even with the tromped on heads…my little girl does that too. May memories comfort you during this time of loss.

  7. My heart is sad. Beautiful Molly. It’s so hard to let them go, I can relate to letting them go being the worst part of being a kitty caretaker, brutal on the heart even when I know it’s the best thing. – purrs and purrs.

  9. Letting them go truly is the most difficult of decisions, but ultimately it is the strongest test of love you can give. Molly will forever be in your heart – such a sweet girl she was. Love and prayers from Deb and the Zee/Zoey kitties

  10. We are so very sorry that Molly had to leave. Cancer is very difficult, and it takes many kitties. Hugs and purrs and purrayers to you during this very hard time. But Molly is running free and pain free now!
